I have someone opening a JPG. Whether it's in Windows fax viewer or going through Microsoft Office Picture Manager. They open their picture and see their current image plus they see old images from history. I went into Folder options, VIEW and checked the box that says DO NOT CACHE THUMBNAILS but that doesn't help. Anyone, anyone?

Are the images they are seeing actually stored in Documents and Settings\UserNamexxxx\My Documents\My Pictures?

What are they seeing in the Picture and Fax Viewer, are they using that to Edit the photo, or just to Preview a photo, and then using it to open the Office Picture Manager program itself?

Have they got a proper photo editing program? I think what you are seeing may be normal for Photo Manager (never use it mind you). Does it change if you select Single View from the View menu?

About Picture Manager

I guess it's possible that that for some obscure reason thumbnails are not being updated. If you have unticked 'do not cache thumbnails' you also need to delete all the thumbs.db files that hold the thumbnails. There is no harm in doing this.

If you have 'do not cache thumbnails' ticked then XP will take longer to open a folder with lots of images in filmstrip or thumbnail view.

If you re tick 'do not cache thumbnails' after deleting all the thumbs.db files it will force XP to re-create them next time the folder is opened in either thumbnail or filmstrip view.

No pictures are in their local "My Documents". When she is opening it, it's not in a preview mode, it just opens the image fully. She wants to view it but not edit it.
I did a search for thumbs.cb and couldn't find anything. Where is that located?

Potentially there is a thumbs.db file in every folder that has images in it, if that folder has ever been opened in thumbnail or filmstrip view.

Are you talking about what happens when you double click on a picture to open it? - then I think you need to change the 'opens with' to the windows picture and fax viewer. Simply right click an image, choose "open with" then select "Choose Program" select "windows picture and fax viewer" and tick the 'always opens... box" - That should do the trick.

It started off in the Windows picture and fax viewer... It still had old images tacked onto the end of what she originally opened. If she forwards it to me, I don't see those additional images.

Any chance you could post a screenshot?
