Hello,

I have a question regarding disabling the cache for the PPC405 in Vertix II Pro. When I start using the wizard to create a new project in XPS and during the process, there was an option to enable or disable the cache, but what if I would like to change that setting after finishing the wizard?

Where is the setting for enable and disable the cache stored?

Thanks.

Hello krkrkr,

It has been a while since I've used the embedded PPC in Xilinx virtexes.

We used to use them as main processors, but to be honest we encountered situations where simple external microcontrollers were killing them selves because they got nuts of waiting for the PPC. They are sometimes handy for implementing more complex control state machines when running them from blockram/blockrom.
Anyway I'm not 100% sure any more but there might be a way of telling ISE to implement cache or not in the output file of EDK. I do not recall the extension but its the file that contains the list of cores with their internal connection and options. I think its the .mhs file.

Also if I recall correctly the software running on the PPC can disable its cache or not at run time. Altough thinking about it makes me think I might be confusing this with pre-compile stating which memory regions are cached and which are not.

I'm sorry I can't be of more help.

Regards
