I am looking for something simple that would clean the ceramic tabs on a 66 block from markings with sharpies, pens, etc. Currently I use the method of taking the sharpie and completely darkening the tab that has the writing, then quickly wipe it away with my thumb--this is somewhat effective, although it leaves a gray smudge ............ someone told me of a pen shaped item that has a large felt tip that you rub over the ceramic tab two or three times and the indelible ink vanishes. Myth or Fact?????

Does anyone use the Fluke TS 90 on 66 block pairs? I am wondering if this might be a faster way of testing for good pairs from phone closet to phone closet in multi floor or large facilities? Sort of expensive but if it can save time--especially going from the 9th floor to the 6th floor to the basement and back again to change to a different pair, seems like it may be worth it--- however before I spend the money--I just want a little confirmation.

Thanks in advance

For years I have used finger nail polish remover to clean blocks. And it leaves my fingers so clean and nice. Try to get the scented kind, about $2 a bottle and use it in a ventilated area.

I opted for something a little more expensive than the TS90, and it looks like it isn't really going to help you much. It doesn't seem to be able to tell you whether you have other cables tapped on your pairs, so you could get about the same amount of information with a simple 77 toner. That said, for about $200 it might be fun to take a look at, especially for the TDR to fault option :)

I like the finger nail polish remover trick myself. I usually wipe them back down with an alcohol pep pad afterwards to remove the oily residue. Work for a hospital they are easy to come by.

Finger nail polish remover if not doing the trick just go stronger and it won't hurt the block etc 100% Pure Acetone is 80%n of what a bottle of fingernail polish remover is. and depending on what type it is a fuild injected engine put a few drops of 100% acetone and get an extra few miles per gallon it's a tried and proven fact many years driving my own vehicle to job sites will try anything once. JUST be careful do not put more than a few drops in your tank mix too much and engine stalls. but on the plus side all your valves etc will be nice and clean!

Thanks for the great suggestions--I went to the local drug store and got nail polish remover in pads (10 pads to a box) and tried it, works great.

I dont do it too often but I always have have used the coated end of a pair of dykes, takes it right off. Same principle as an eraser Im sure.

Crooter, what kind of 66 blocks do you have?

I have never seen a ceramic fanning strip on a 66 block, the only ones I have seen are made of plastic!

The Vandalism remover works great and most janitors have a box of wipes that have it on. And no noxious fumes.

Why would someone want to use nailpolish remover in a well ventilated area? Doesn't that defeat the purpose?
