Hi. Does anyone know of problems that Cable ISPs have with supporting Windows XP? Recently, a friend purchased a PC with XP professional, and also ordered Time Warner's ROad Runner cable service, and Time Warner has told him that they do not "support" the windows XP platform, and could not help him set up his XP machine to use Road Runner's service (RR will support XP within 30 to 60 days). He also has heard that people have been able to set up RR on XP. Has anyone been able to do so?
Thanks.

just order it.. RR
itz not hard to setup... it took me a week to figure it out.. but really once u get the hang of it.. itz fairly simple

make sure u have only one network card installed in the machine...

then hook up the cable modem -
go to network and creat new connection
reboot
and there ya go

I tried creating a new connection and when I open the browser, it says cant find the page you requested.
Any help would be appreciated.

All you have to do is set the settings in your tcp/ip settings to your isp settings. If they use dchp just make sure you check that then reboot and then it should be able to connect in windows xp.

I just bought a Compaq Presario 5000. I can not get on though XP with my Cable Modem. Nor can I even get on Through Windows 98. No matter how I try to set up a new connection it just gives me the "can not load page" default. How can I get connected through my Adelphia Cable Modem

We upgraded to xp home edition and can not get the modem to dial up for ie 6.0 or other software that auto dials. Also, when in ie 6.0 a new window appears after we click on a link but it stays empty. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Not really aure why you are having a problem, it took me about 5min to setup. If you are using the USB, plug it in, point to the driver and you should be set. If not, right click on the connection and hit repair. This will clear and retrieve the IP from RR.

If using ethernet, make sure your nic card works. Plug in the cable to the WAN port of the modem, then right click on the connection and hit repair.

I have had many different setups with DSL connections, Either modem to PC or modem to Router to PC's. I have had many problems and many hours of headaches. The first and easiet try/solution you should try is this.

Unplug everythign (power and RJ-45) then
plug in the router and its power supply
if you dont have a router just plug in the modem (power supply)

there should be no ethernet cables connected yet

then go to your network properties it may vary with different versions of windows. Make sure you have obtain IP automatically, DHCP Enabled, and everything else to obtain automatically UNLESS your provider Specifically tells you otherwise.

Re-Boot

before windows loads anything connect the LAN/Ethernet cable and the logon to windows.. It should work..
