Exactly what kind of serial cable do you need to go through the dte port to default the system? I thought it might have been a proprietary avaya cable that I have for avaya media gateway but nope.
Got a null modem cable and still cant get a connection. Following the instructions found in the ip office maintenance manual, same instructions that are in another thread here on tek-tips about dte port maintenance. If anyone is aware of any known issues or oddities in the hyperterminal settings, or any reason why I might not be able to get a hyperterminal session started, please let me know, its becoming quite frustrating that I cant get into this box no matter what I try.
ipohead is technically correct. We all call it a null modem cable, but it really is a straight through serial cable. Null modem has the Tx/Rx pins flipped on the opposite side.
The Avaya doc shows the pinout.
to t3chn1nja...it can be tricky the first couple of times you do it...but as long as you follow the link above you'll get it. The key is to press esc quickly as soon as it boots up (have hyperterm already open and "connected) and once you get to the loader portion it'll stop and you can then throw your commands at it.
