Hello, I recently got COX digital internet, and the cable line looks like a phone connector at the end, except larger, t1 they might be called? My tower does not have a jack in the back that fits this, I only have phone line ones. what ever do I need?
Thanks in adv
The cable you are referring to in all probability, is an
RJ-45 ethernet cable.
A network interface card (NIC) will be required to be installed into your computer.
It is possible, yor cable modem has the ability to use a USB port into your computer, although I highly recommend getting a NIC installed.
This will provide you with many more options in the future. Good luck, and Happy Computing
What kind do you recommend, I have a gateway 2000, 266mhz, 64meg's of ram. pent. 2----Can u guys name some prices and can I get these at staples, or office max.
Thanks for the help
Staples has a policy. If you can prove that you can purchase the IDENTICAL item at a lower cost, they'll beat it by 10%.
Go home, search the web, find the cheapest price, print it on paper, take said paper to Staples, get it REALLY cheap.
I do this all the time, and they don't like it, but they honour it. Cheers,
Jim
I bought my NIC, installed fine, all is smooth. Although I got a little scared, after I installed the software, it promted me to put in the w98 cd. which i have not seen in 3 years, I just kept hitting ok, and cancel to all these differ dialog boxes, and eventually it asked me to reboot, I did, clicked on IE and bingo. my ? is y was I promted for the 98 cd if I did not need it?
There might have been some drivers it wanted to install for certain kinds of networking clients, etc. Usually all you need is the NIC card driver that came with the NIC card.
Some people copy the win98 CD to their hard drive for safe keeping. With the larger hard drives of today this isnt such a big deal.
I think with WinME and XP most of the drivers and the Windows CAB files are copied to your hard drive so you do not need a CD for any drivers, etc. If you do not like my post feel free to point out your opinion or my errors.
