Hi all:

I have the choice of using both these routers for my home setup. Aside from the obvious differences (837 has integrated dsl modem and 4 port switch), which one would you use?

My network at home is all gigabit into a seperate switch, which is then run into the (2621 or 837) for internet access.

I don't NEED to use one or the other, I'm just curious if one is better than the other.

If you use DSL, then you will need a WIC-1ADSL card for the 2621, unless you have a dsl modem that you can bridge to the 2621. Other than that, the 2621 can build you a better firewall with the right image, but I don't think the 2621 can hold the image necessary for IDS/IPS support. That's where a 2621XM comes in. Basically, better security configs are available for the 2600 series, and also keep in mind---the native interface type in the 837 is ethernet, not fastethernet---the 4 ports in the 837 are built into a layer 2 fastethernet switch module, which is layer 2 technology---I don't know if you can get past half-duplex with the 837, and if you have GB ethernet in your nodes, well...but if this is between buying either-or, then do a bit of research to learn what it takes to make dsl work with the 2620, assuming the questions about the 837 are because of a potential dsl config. Now THAT is a mouthful! lol

I should have said that I have BOTH in my possession already, and I can get BOTH to work with my DSL (I already had a DSL modem running in bridge mode). So it's just down to features and reliability.

Thanks for your reply!
