I have 2 PC's this happens to, on one it opens C:\Program which is a blank folder and on the other it opens the D partition, I looked in the start-up folder and it shows nothing that would open either of these folders, and I searched the registry on the one opening C:\Program, with no results - any idea what is causing these 2 to open? I have Norton 7.5 corp. loaded on both and they are scanned and clean.

You will have more than 1 startup folder - go to explorer click on (C:) CTRL+F type in Startup - look in those folders as well.

Using msconfig, selectively remove items until you isolate the ones that are doing it...
Comes from a partially removed install that left behind a call to a .dll...when the system can't find it the last place on the path that's valid is called...resulting in the directory being opened.
One of the reg cleaners may also help you...there are several.

Thanks for the tips, I will let you know how I make out.

You need to look in the win and sytem.ini's. Look for the shell= , run =, or load= commands in each of the two. The only thing that should be shelled is the Explorer.exe and nothing else. You can get to these two files with the SYSEDIT command in the run window from start up. Also check the autoexec.bat file. [sup]Tiger[/sup][sub]Flight[/sub] [tiger]

Superb link, Kento, and not the origin of the problem I'd been told.
Now I know the difference.
(until told otherwise) LOL

I got it working - thanks for all your tips - the MSconfig did the trick!
