I have a Definity G3i V9.5. I followed instructions (from my vendor and from this sites FAQ) quite faithfully. The card in one of my definitys fired right up, but in another one I can't ping it and I'm getting the following test results:

02A18 CLAN-BD 52 PASS
02A18 CLAN-BD 598 PASS
02A18 CLAN-BD 600 PASS
02A18 CLAN-BD 601 PASS
02A1817 ETH-PT 1281 FAIL 1007
02A1817 ETH-PT 1286 ABORT 1124
02A1817 ETH-PT 1282 ABORT 1124

Is my board bad? The only other thing I can think of is: my vendor told me to configure my switch port at 10MB full, which I did at the site where the card is working. I have run into instructions, however, mentioning 100MB instead. I can't find any place to change this setting in my Definity.
Can that be the issue??

Thanks!!

all of my CLANS are set to 100 Full. Try setting both the CLAN and the port on the ethernet switch to 100 Full.

Thanks, PeteBull. I can have the switch port set, but how do you verify and/or change the setting on the Definity? I can't locate the command.

**this change is service affecting so make sure to do it in a maintenance window if the CLAN is in production.

change ip-interface AABCC

where AABCC is the CLAN you want to change.

you will need to set {Enable Ethernet Port: N}, save and then start again before you can change the settings for Auto, Speed, and Duplex.

don't forget to re-enable the Ethernet Port :) I forget all the time.

A G3siV9.5 only supports 10/half LAN connections.

Kevin

whoops, my mistake, I didn't know G3siV9.5 only supported 10M Ethernet connections. Sorry about that.

The backplanes on the older carriers are only wired with Cat 3 wiring, so that's why only 10 MPS/half. The newer carriers were wired up with Cat 5 Cabling so they can be 100 MPS and full duplex.

medeamedea Just make sure that both ends of your connection are set to 10/half.

From the maintenance manual on Ether-port maintenance object

e. Error Type 1281: System software received an indication that the far end has requested a
disconnect of a session on this link. This is a log-only error.

Code:
1007 FAIL Ping to the destination failed due to the destination down.
1. Verify that at least one destination reachable through this port is up.
Ping this destination (ping ip-address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx).
2. If the ping to any destination is successful through this port, the link is
up, although some destinations are unreachable. Ignore the failure.
3. If ping to every destination fails, test this port (test port location
short), and follow the repair procedures for Session Status test
(#1286) failures.

When is the last time you helped someone, just because you were able to?

I'll have the port settings changed to half and see if that works. Thanks a lot everyone.
