Hi,

I have a server (2003) that is throwing up a Low Disk Space message. When I check the C drive there is only 206 mb left. The capacity is 4.87 Gig. When you look at all the directories on the Cdrive and add them up - their total is only 2.7 gig. I have checked that the paging file is on another drive and I have "Show all files" ticked.

What could be taking up the extra capacity but not showing itself. I need to make more space. Any ideas ?

thanks,

Paul

For everyone? That bit us recently.. One admin logged on as themselves, and deleted a whole bunch of stuff and logged off. .. Without emptying the recycle bin. We couldn't see where the space was being taken up, and even looking at their user profile info under computer properties didn't show the consumption. We finally used TreeSize Pro to show us where the all the disk space was being used, and that finally showed us the really full recycle bin.

looked in the event logs as well to see if there were a large amount but the most was about 150mb which still doesn't explain it.

The system volume information folder (hidden) can sometimes contain alot of data, if you use shadow copies especially as they are stored in there. By default admins don't have rights to this folder only the system account so Windows doesn't show you how much data is in there. You can add the admin user to the folder (only apply read only just incase) to check what's in there, but remember to remove it afterwards.
