I have a database that I've applied security to, where Access created a Worgroup Administrator "Security.mdw" file. This file resides in a subdirectory of the directory where the access database resides on a network drive.

I want to be able to have the database usable by numerous people within our team. Some of them use Access for other database applications.

I have found that the only way I can get them able to access the database I created is to enusre they don't have to manually join this workgroup administor security page?
If they do join the "Security.mdw" file to their Access application it then requires them to apply that security to all access apps they use.

I've tried using Desktop Shortcuts, but it doesn't work.

Any and all help is appreciated.

Dave

I think the correct format for Access shortcuts with workgroup, username and password switches is:

<Access executable path> <Database path> /WrkGrp <MDW file path> /User <UserName> /Pwd <Password>.

For example:

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\MSACCESS.EXE" "D:\TestDB\Test.mdb" /wrkgrp "D:\TestDB\Secure.mdw" /User Ed /Pwd MyPass

If you have spaces in your filepaths the quotes are necessary, otherwise I think they can be left out.

If your users launch the database from the shortcut they can remain connected to their default workgroup file.

Doesn't have the security wizard created an example shortcut for you ?

Hope This Helps, PH.

I haven't used it for a long time, but I don't recall it ever creating an example shortcut. Unless this is a new feature?

When I create the shortcut on another users machine, the shortcut takes you to Access but you then get the error message that they don't have permission to the object (the access database).
At that point if they use the Tools drop down menu for Security and open Workgroup Administrator and do the Join (still have to browse for the Security.MDW file), it works fine.
But then if they are using any other access applications Microsoft is attaching that join to their application.
Creates a mess.

For most users it is acceptable, but I have a couple that do their own Access programming for tasks specific to them.
