any suggestions on where to buy? I live in ontario canada, but i converted the amount i saved to USD so its easyer to visualize

thanks, and sorry about the typos

almost forgot, so far im leaning towards pccanada.com

try dell..

their refurbished systems can be had for an awesome price if you are patient.. it took me about 4 days of watching, but I've seen p4 2000+ with radeon 9700 pro cards, 128-512 mb pc1066 ram, and 20-80 gb hard drives go for as low as $700 US.. and they offer free shipping, at least for the lower 48, not sure how much more it would be to canada.
they will also give you the same shipping price if you add a monitor, you can get a decent 17 inch for another 100-130.

then just swap in your sound card and you'll have a great system, and if your old computer has onboard sound, a complete system to give to someone else.

Check out I do all my purchasing from in Vancouver. Sometimes I use but the site isn't updated too regularily.
I could put together a complete package for you, if you just specify Intel or AMD, approx CPU speed, and how much RAM. I can get reonditioned 17" monitors starting around $50 CDN (I'm in B.C., but could ship if you think it's worth it).
I don't find that PCCanada is great on pricing, however they are very highly rated at
Here's a couple of choices:
AMD System:

9013 SOLTEK 75FRN2-L NFORCE2 SOCKETA DUAL DDR AGP8X 5PCI ATA133 SOUND LAN YES $145.77 $145.77
7527 AMD ATHLON XP 2100+ 256K 266FSB SOCKET A RETAIL BOX YES $135.60 $135.60
8023 SAMSUNG 256MB PC2700 DDR333 184PIN OEM YES $61.44 $122.88
SUBTOTAL: $404.25
ADD between $50 and $200 for monitor.

Intel System:

8676 INTEL CELERON 2.0GHZ S478 400FSB 128K W/ HSF RETAIL BOX 2-3 Days $149.73 $149.73
8661 GIGABYTE GA-8PE667 I845PE S478 533FSB DDR333 AGP 6PCI USB2.0 ATA100 SOUND 2-3 Days $149.16 $149.16
8023 SAMSUNG 256MB PC2700 DDR333 184PIN OEM YES $61.44 $122.88
SUBTOTAL: $421.77

ADD between $50 and $200 for monitor.

The AMD will blow the doors off the Celeron system, and upgrading to a P4 adds about $150 to the price.

If you want to go higher end stuff, I can do that too.
Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Jim

im sorry i ment to say "if you"

Sure. Generally they're mostly Dell, Samsung, Sylvania type monitors, if a tube was required, they get Panasonic. All flyback transformers have been replaced. They'll do 1280x1024 usually, at LEAST 1152x864 32 bit.
Email me directly: reboot@pcmech.com and I'll figure out what I can get, and how much, and you decide.

Cheers,
Jim
