what or how do u find out where the hit area is i have never set a hit area should i have

Ctrl+F8 to create new movie-clip>>>drag onto main stage and edit in place

>>>first frame is blank with stop action
>>>second frame has your pop-out with stop action

>>>edit the actions on your button
>>>"on rollover" tell your clip to go to frame 2 and stop
>>>"on rollout" tell your mc to go to frame1 and stop

When you edit your button, you have 4 keyframes! Up, over, down, hit. In the hit area, you should only have a small circle the size of the circle of your button without the side popup. Otherwise, if you have something bigger in there, the mouse will react as soon as it hits that part of the graphic.

okay i figured it out what u have to do is make the key frames first then modify each frame to what u wantit to do
as far as what u said the button behavior has to be movie clip which brings me to another question how do i make it do animations when the mouse is over it, does it have to be a movie clip to do that cause mine are set to buttons not movie clips

okay

please be patient I'm gonna go through this with you step-by-steppppppp.... dave@davdesign.co.uk

You can add more layers to each button and change text for example, but if you don't have movie clips, you'll be sort of limited. You can have a look at my FAQ: faq250-487
Two animated buttons in there, button 1 & 2, and you can dowload the fla to see how it's done!

The news is comin on... Will be back after the news! But Dave will probably have taken care of you!

No need to go step-by step actually....

YES, it has to be a movie-clip. But ONLY insert it in the OVER frame of your button. dave@davdesign.co.uk

Yes! If you've downloaded my fla. Edit one of the buttons. The action is takin place in the animate layer on the over keyframe!

You can start with the lessons, samples & tutorial in the Flash help files... And then rip open other people's .flas!
That, I figure, is the best way!

sorry crashed out....

>>1>> Press Ctrl+F8 to create a new movie-clip, this will be your replacement pointer.
>>2>>DON'T drag the clip onto the main stage.
>>3>>Press Ctrl+L to open the library for the movie and you'll see your new clip.
>>4>>right-click on the clip and select "Linkage"
>>5>>Slect "Export this symbol" and type in a name, lets say "yourcursor". Hit OK.
>>6>>In the first frame of your movie insert the actions:

Mouse.hide();
_root.attachMovie("yourcursor", "customCursor", 9999);
_root.customCursor.startDrag(true);

And there you have it..........
