Thanks again all. I have a phone technician here to install a Fax line. He's punched it in...we think. I've assigned a target line and can get it to ring internally. When I attempt to call in from outside I get a busy...What have I missed?

Fax line? Do you mean a cable and jack or a analog number to the jack. I think you mean you gave it an extention. You have to assign the programed target line I would guess to the ATA.

An analog number to the jack...

If I copy system data from an existing fax line to my new fax DID, what does that copy?

What exactly did the tech do? Is he a Nortel Tech or a dial tone vendor tech?

We all need a little help once in awhile. Tony the Phoneman..

If it is an analog line then it should go directly to the jack it does not have to go thru the system. Is this a new line.

Tony,

He's a vendor tech. I can get a dial tone and I can it to ring internally.

Disconnect the Fax then dial the number is it still busy. And what are you dialing to get it to ring internaly.

Cook,

The fax is not actually hooked up. I plugged an analog phone into the jack. If I dial 5303 (that's the DID) the phone rings. If I dial directly from outside line, I get a busy. I have a dial tone on the phone....It's just incoming calls are not being routed to that DID.

It sounds like you're using an analog extension, not a POTS line. Are you dialing 5303 from the intercom path of another system phone? If so, that's the extension number of the fax, but not necessarily the DID. To confirm, from the analog set, call another system extension. The fax ext should appear on the display.

To assign a DID to that set, in installer programming, go to Lines, and program a Target number with the receive digits 5303 (assuming 5303 is in the DID block assigned by your CO provider). Set the Prime set for that line to ext 5303.

Go to Terminals&Sets, 5303, and show until it prompts you for a line number. Enter the target line you programmed in the last step, and change it to Ring Only.

Exit programming, wait for the system to update, and test again.
