Currently trying to decide whether to go with Business Objects or Proclarity as a data analysis and reporting tool for a large business using SQL-Server. Need to keep expenditure to a minimum. Does anyone have any thoughts on which is the better package? Help greatly appreciated.

Hi!

Recently i received information from ProClarity (new versions) and i feel that company offers many applications, clients and servers. Desktop Client, look's easier to use, but graphics in old versions, looks like kindergarden draw's.

Bussiness Object, has incorporated OLAP AT WORK years ago, addins for excel 97 and 2000, that was greate. But it's more expensive.

If you need a visualization tool, ProClarity look's well.

Greetings,

Our tech team settle on ProClarity because of it close link with Microsoft and MS Analysis Services.

I was not in the decision making process with regards to testing etc. But the above was the conslusion.

I will be curious to know if there are other opinions on thsi.

business objects has a very easy to use interface to access, analyse and share Datas (OLAP, Web, RDBMS). And you can build a logical view of your data, exactly the way you need to provide data to users.
The best way to know if a solution meet your needs is to test it. So why don't you test both?

ProClarity has developed an extensive and tight partnership with Microsoft. If intergration with Desktop tools is important to you, I would consider ProClarity, as the integration will only get tighter in the coming months...What DB system are you using? If SQL Server 2000, I would recommend ProClarity, since you already would have Analysis Services.
