Bulkadmin for special User sa

Hy all,

for access to an SQL-Server DB (2005) it is prerequisit that all users have serverrole "Bulkadmin".

But it seems not to work for the sa-User. Neither with Management Studio nor SQL-Sript (EXEC sp_addsrvrolemember sa, bulkadmin).

Anybody a good idea how to solve the problem ?

Roles are hierarchical. SA is in the sysadmin role, which allows complete access to the functions covered by all other roles.

sysadmin
Performs any activity in SQL Server. The permissions of this role span all of the other fixed server roles.

serveradmin
Configures server-wide settings.

setupadmin
Adds and removes linked servers, and executes some system stored procedures, such as sp_serveroption.

securityadmin
Manages server logins.

processadmin
Manages processes running in an instance of SQL Server.

dbcreator
Creates and alters databases.

diskadmin
Manages disk files.

bulkadmin
Executes the BULK INSERT statement.

With as much information philhege provided, I'm surprised that he didn't mention:

You are supposed to use the SA account. You should create an account/role for whatever you are trying to do. If you are using the SA account, then it is possible it could become compromised, which is not good for you or your business.

The sa account does not need to be made a member of the bulk-admin fixed server role. The sa account already has these rights.

What error message are you getting?

As was already said the sa account shouldn't be used by your application as that it a security issue.

You are supposed to use the SA account.

I think you meant not. Thanks for pointing out my omission.

I saw an application that requires the use of the sa account during installation. That's just 1) lazy, and 2) bad practice.
