I have a quick question--I thought that BASIC and ESSENTIAL comes out of the box with 3 SIP trunk licenses. I cannot find the license in one of my customers Preferred Edition. I thought it all carried forward? Also a 8.0 (16)

Thanks

I have never heard of that. Basic edition doesn't do IP telephony to begin with so that seems fairly impossible.

SIP trunk licenses are always an extra purchase.

Only the basic mode has 3 free sip trunk licenses by default.
The essential edition will need licenses before it works.

Code:
•	SIP Trunk Channel Licenses
The system can support 3 simultaneous SIP calls without needing licenses. Additional simultaneous calls, up to 20 in total, require the addition of licenses to the configuration.
•	VCM Channels
Note that for SIP calls the system also requires VCM channels. For a IP Office Basic Edition - Quick Mode system those are provided by installing IP500 Combination base cards. Each of these cards provides 10 VCM channels.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

Then I stand corrected! :)

We never use Basic Edition anyways.

wow...thats not good. So who was the genius that made that decision? We need to charge the customer $500.00 more to go to Essential, PLUS we need to pay for the FREE SIP trunks they had under the BASIC package.

thanks for the answer. I thought I was losing my mind. I knew that I read that somewhere.

Basic sucks big time.
To give it something they give 3 free sip trunks.
They already removed the 3 free twinning licenses (twinning is gone now)
Forget about the basic edition and you will probably not make this mistake again :)

Peter Twinning is not gone it just no longer requires any licence at all :)

I agree with you comments about Muppet mode though I just cannot see any benefit (except cost cutting)

A Maintenance contract is essential, not a Luxury.
Do things on the cheap & it will cost you dear

IPGuru, the basic edition has not twinning anymore, it is really gone.
IPO mode has free twinning now.

we have a lot of smaller customers that have the Partner systems and would like to re-use the sets...thats why we would use BASIC...thats the only reason

Basic edition cannot use partner phones.
Then you need a Partner edition which has it's own SD card.

I just installed one on Friday...the NON Essential version that only costs $ 50.00 is the version that we used. I would assume that the SIP license that we are referring to are carried over to the Partner and the Norstar BASIC mode.

We have a lot of small to very small businesses that we have installed the IPO PARTNER version from R6, R6.1, R7 and R8. In the early releases, I always ordered the PARTNER SD card, but now I just order the regular IPO SD card when running basic, it still supports the ETR Partner sets. IPO Basic Edition Quick Mode (IPO) and IPO Basic Edition PARTNER are the same thing.

Quick mode supports BRI (12 channels) or PRI (30 channels), while Partner mode does not have BRI and only 24 channels for PRI. Other than that, they are 100% identical.
