My ISP just changed the FTP server so that I cant use "passive mode" (dont really know what it is).

I can turn off the passive mode in a client like SmartFTP, but how do I do it in the built-in windows FTP client??

Thanks!

PS: Does the built-in client have a name? you dont really get anything useful if you google "windows built-in ftp"

Hi,

You may try this...I have done quite a bit of research on this and I don't think there is a cmd in the ftp.exe client to switch back and forth between passive and active.

MOVEit Freely is a FREE command-line FTP over SSL client for Windows. It is scriptable and often serves as a "drop-in" replacement for people who are used to the syntax of Microsoft's "ftp.exe" client but want to use Passive mode, different FTP ports, client certificates and/or SSL-secured transfers.

Also, check out the following link:

Pretty good explanation about FTP.exe Dos/windows client.

Hope this helps,

Erik

Hmm, is this for DOS-prompt-FTP or IE-FTP?

When I try to logon via ftp in explore/IE, and I look in the task manager, there isn't any programs called "ftp.exe" and it was that FTP-client I was thinking about, so I guess it has another name. Sorry for not writing that in my first thread. And I do NOT want the 'passive' on, I want it off. :)

I also checked this link:
I got the "Enable folder view for FTP sites" on.
but when I toggle between "Use passive FTP", it doesn't have any effect. It should though.

Any ideas?

Great! Thanks!

I had to reboot for it to go to passive mode. I was giving up too soon.

Thanks!
