Hopefully someone out there can help me with this legacy software I've got.
I'm trying to restore some files from a tape created with Budtool. when I drill down to the directory I want and fire off the retriece, I get a
'failed to open file : Error O
unable to Extract: Error during process
the program is reading the correct volume info, and I did verify my last backup to make sure there isn't a larger problem.
I've been here about 6 months, and these backups are from February, so the configurationo , while I've been here, is OK.
Anyone out there familiar with this tool?

Hi Steven,
Yes, I used to support BudTool and loved it. Am sorry to see it go. In case you are not aware, it is still supported by Legato Systems, so depending on your support status you could get support from them, even pay per incident if you get desperate for the data. And they have some sort of migration program you might want to look into.

That being said, let's have a crack at it. Here are some thoughts that may help, in no particular order.
Check rtserver.diag file. While restores were famous for not giving you much info, there may be a bit more in here than you posted.
Try another restore off the same tape, and/or the same info for that client on a different tape (even though it is not want you want) to help pinpoint the issue.
Try going up a level and/or doing Media History view instead of File History view.

*Using the info from the diag and/or GUI, you should be able to determine the file number and utility used to create the backup if you don't already know. With this info, try the restore from command line by positioning the tape and issuing the command. If you have not done this before and need help, let me know. This will help determine if there is a problem with file history, tapes database, the image itself, etc.

Those are my ideas to get you started. If this doesn't unstick you, let me know and we can try some other things.
Cheers

thanks for the response.
so far, nothing. I am able to restore files from other directories no problem. Just this one directory, and it seems to be on all my tapes that this one particular directory is bombing out.I keep getting -
'failed to open file - Error O'
