The problem started happening at the beginning of April 2006. It usually occurs when the system is stressed, i.e. when running a spyware scan with Agnitum Outpost or cleaning the disk with Evidence Eliminator (during the phase when file tips are cleaned). Rarely happens during normal system use.

I have tried reverting to a Ghost backup which predates the problem by several weeks without success. I have substituted the system board with an identical spare, again without success. I have unsuccessfully tried different HDDs onto which I have Ghosted the system with the problem.

I have not yet substituted memory. I have thrashed about for many hours trying this and that - there are so many things that it could be. I am missing something. My instinct is that flaky memory could be the reason but the halt is always the same BSOD with the message and error code as above so software seems a likely cause.

I think I am in for a reinstall but shall reapply SP4 as a desperate last fling.

I am mentally exhausted and any hints would be appreciated.
