I am using Windows 2000 prof., connected to a smc7004br router thru a cable modem.( if you need any more info I will supply). My question is-whether I am using IE5.5sp1 or Netscape Comm. 4.77 and I am browsing the internet it stops and loses its connection(hangs). I have cleaned the cookies and temp. internet files and also adjusted the startup group for minimal programs running and I still hang. I then restart the computer and then I can browse for a little while til it hangs again. Any suggestions? Thanks
P.S. My two kids using Win98se on the network have no trouble at all. Is it a win2000 issue?
Thanks for the reply!

Is there a specific time limit before hangs, or is it variable. What cable provider?

Paul
I would have to say variable, and its not like I have 10 different windows opened either. I could be reading the links on this website and as I choose another to read it acts like its searching then comes up saying that the window can't be displayed. This is using either browser.
The cable provider is Cableone out of Arizona, I'm in ND.
Anything I can add?

Is the error "Page cannot be displayed", can you go back or go to another site. Can you access the sites at other times or directly with the cable modem ie. not through the router? If you can, post URL's of sites that won't load.

Depending on your answer, it could be a router config problem, security settings, sites being temporarily down, any or some of the above!

Paul
The error is something like this--When I click on a link, you can see that the browser is trying to access the link, then a window pops up indicating that it cannot access the server, it might be down. I try to go anywhere (home page, different links)and the same message comes up and now can't go to any sites. I can go back and see the sites to which I was on before (only because it remembers them) and try another link but the same message comes up. I can see the lights on the cable modem particularly the data light, is off. I will try to eliminate the router and go directly through the modem and see if it works. Thank you for your help.

Paul,
I eliminated the router and I still have the same problems. I am going to talk to Toshiba(modem) and find out if Win2000 has any conflicts with it. I was at the win98 machines and did everything the same and had no problems. Weird. I will post my findings.
Thanks for your suggestions
