browser refuses to load some sites

My browser loads some web sites but not others. The sites that don't load are always the same ones. I have reinstalled my browser (IE5.5), reinstalled Win98, played with the security settings, and checked the hosts file. What else can I try?

you need to provide more detail
(i.e. any error messages?, any other apps running at same time as you are browsing the "NET"?, etc.)

The configuration is the same as it was a week ago when everything worked fine.The sites that don't load are found, but the progress bar goes up about a third and just stops. It goes on forever, and won't even time out. The only thing the sites that don't load have in common is that most, but not all have no "

http://www"

in the url.

it sounds like there is a problem with the search function in IE like when you type yahoo.com without the www. yahoo is bad example too common but I have seen this as problematic if you were searching for a site like allthat.esmartweb.com
