Browser misidentified

I have both IE 6.0 and Firefox on my machine (XP SP2). When I visit certain sites under IE (like My Yahoo), the site informs me that I am running Netscape. Why would a Web site think I'm not running IE when I am? I'm guessing that the presence of Firefox has changed something, but I don't know what.

The browser agent string has probably been modified. You can view information in the registry to verify this:

sometimes coders make mistakes on websites, and only check for a specific version of the browser
