Browse for appropriate program to open a file. When I browse to the correct application it doesn't show up in the list. I can browse to any other application and it will show up, but not the one I want. Is there a way to force this to go into the menu, so I can pick it to open an associtated file?

TIA!

If I understand it, you want to fix the association of a specific file extension to a specific application.

In Explorer, Tools, Folder Options, File Types, scroll down to the file extension type, and use the lower panel to change the Open with program. This will permit you to browse (I know it will list choices, but hit the Browse button) and assign a specific program to open the files.

I have tried this but it continues to use the wrong app. The app I'm trying to use is called Solidworks. Solidworks also has a viewer, that will take over from time to time if it is used. Well I used to to test for a customer. Now all my part files are associated to the viewer. I have tried browsing back to the Solidworks.exe but doesn't accept it. When I click on it I would expect to see in the list of aceptable programs but it's not. That's why I'm asking is there a way to force it in there (via the registry or something similiar) if not, I guess I'll be reformating for the 3rd time in the last 3 months, because I need this function avaliable, not sure what else to do to make XP recognize this application.

Thanks,
