If the heads are just flying back and forth over the drive making a constant "clock-like" ticking sound like it can't find the servo info... is there anyway to fix that? Assume a clean room is involved. Any tips?

I am having the same problem with my maxtor 20.0 gb hard-drive i to have opened the drive and don't believe that a clean room is needed. A hard drive is not much different than a cd-rom.

Airtight,
Probably a repair shop. May be cable, may be board.

t4ntrum,
other than multiple sides, and some tight tolerances, and some surface contamination issues, you're right. Hopefully, you won't gum it up enough that a recovery service can't get it back.
