Hi everyone

I am currently going through and deleting 675 orphaned files and files that are old although if they create a broken link after deletion this will not show when I re run the link checker even though I know they are. Does anyone know why this is? I can't keep deleting things if it is going to create a broken link within the site. Also, is there any way of finding out where an individual document is located on the site if at all?

Second issue is that orphaned files that I have deleted in both the local site and remote site are still coming up when I do the link check. Why is this so and how can I get them removed from the orphaned files list?

Please help

Merry

Thanks Feherke although I have re run the link checker many times. I have even made a broken link then re run the link checker and it still does not show.

It will be easier to help if you answer Feherke's question.

Please give us more details. What link checker and how do you use it.

Huh? What do you mean by "local" and "remote" sites?

My guess is that it's one of two things:

1) You are not actually deleting the files that are used to display the site. Maybe you're looking at some backup copy and the real files are elsewhere. It's hard to say without knowing your set-up.

2) The files are deleted, but there's some caching going on between you and the server which means you're still seeing the pages. It may be as simple as doing a ctrl+refresh to see the latest version, it may not. It should resolve itself in time anyway.

Sorry, I didn't read Feherkes message properly.

I am using Dreamweaver version 6 and within it is a Link checker that checks for broken links, esxternal links and orphaned files. You just click on the 'check links for entire site' and it comes up with all the results for you.

Also, within Dreamweaver there is a local site - for pages, documents located in site - and a remote site - all the pages, documents, etc that have been uploaded to the www.

The URL is
Thank you for your help on this everyone!
