Hey, look at all the "P" abbreviations! ha ha.

Seriously, though, I'm used to working on a Mac (in Quark to be honest, but PM seems very similar). A co-worker wants me to set up a blank PM file on her PC so she can put in text for a simple little quarterly newsletter. I can put the file together no problem, but the fonts are causing me headaches.

I looked around, and she does have some PS fonts on her machine--in a folder called fonts inside the PM application files. However, when I'm in PM, the only fonts that come up for selection are the other bazillion TrueType fonts that reside elsewhere on her machine. She does not have ATM. I don't know how to activate fonts on a PC. Help! Does she need ATM to make this work?

Yes. ATM allows you to use Postscript (and TrueType) faces in Windows applications. Otherwise, you're confined to TT faces. If you can swing it, ATM Deluxe is well worth the extra $$ as it lets you install and deinstall typeface groups on-the-fly.

ATM is worth the less than $100. You can also d/l for free the Font Thing (works on Win98 and WinNT) and does an acceptable job of organizing fonts.

Black Sun also has a free font manager, I have never used it, though.
I personally use Bitstream Font navigator that is packaged with CorelDRAW.

If she has more than 100 fonts, she is asking for trouble using PM, she needs a font manager to keep the actively installed fonts under control.

To install fonts using windows default program , go to Control Panel>Fonts>Install Fonts... this is tedious and doing this once you will realize the value of a font manager. When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.
