Hi,
I´m running Brightstore Version 9 onWindows 2000 server. Since installing the windows 2000 SP4, i cannot view the job status due to Authintication error for caroot. EC=-1 error appears. This onlt appears if CA Remote Procedure Call is diabled. is enabled, brightstore hangs and server usage between 50% & 100%.

I have tried reinstalling brightstore and using the ca_auth.exe command to change the password but that command hangs when RPC is running also, and when not it tells me it cannot connect to caauthd.

Can someone please help, havent had a backup in a week.
Thanks
Paddy

Try to restart all BrightStor services and try the command authsetup /p <newpassword>

the above command will change the password for caroot

don't forget also to enable the debuging of authsetup by issing the command authsetup /p <newpassword> /d and paste the authsetup.log to the thread

This is what i get when i restarted the brightsore and used the command.
RPC was not running, but got same result when started it.
Does this help??

----Monday, March 08, 2004 09:49:23 --- AuthSetup RPC module log begins ----------
AuthSetup : Password =password

AuthSetup : Error opening Domain service initialization event.

Make sure the CA BrightStor Domain Server service is running.

tried with the domain controller running, it gave me this message and ended the contoller service.
Can you give me a list of all the services i should have running for brightstore.
Thanks
P

AuthSetup : Opened Domain service initialization event successfully.

Please rerun this service & restart AuthSetup. GetLastError: 0

Well it is only the Domain Server and Service Controller that are needed to set things up for the other services which are the Message, Job, Database, and Tape Engines.

They should be configured to Log On as System Account and Interact With Desktop.

Beyond that, it might be a corrupt installation.

Try installing the BAB 9.0 updates.
QO38491 58.9 MB 05/12/03 NT -BRIGHTSTOR ARCSERVE BACKUP V9.01 UPDATE(For English Version Only)
and
QO51045 8.6 MB 02/25/04 NT -V9.01 DEVICE SUPPORT PATCH 2

No Luck with that, re-installed, added service packs etc.
Only difference is Windows 2000 service pack 4 was added and hasn't worked since. Are there any known issues with this service pack??
Cheers
P

None that I have heard of so far.

Was the reinstall preceeded by an uninstall?

Perhaps the OS SP4 install corrupted the BAB install and just a reinstall keeps the previous config and so the problem stays. If it was not already tried, uninstall, restart the system, and then reinstall.

BTW save your jobs to someplace else on the disk and the database and log directories if you want to keep them.

Was a fresh uninstall and reinstall.
the problem popped up again when we installed the NOD32 Antivirus program on another 2000 server.
Uninstalling it solved the problem again.
Anyone have this problem??
