I have a problem on backing up the individual mailboxes. I'm using ArcServe 2000 with SP4, running on NT4 server. When I tried to backup the mailboxes, the log will have the below error:
E8602 Failed to read from database (DName=individual Mailboxes\Username, EC=Backup Agent Error - (83) "Remote pipe open failed; time-out")

Does anyone have any ideas on it?

Thanks.

Hi Tabo
I did a google search and found the following tip.

Backup Agent Error -( 83) Remote pipe open failed: time-out.
Probable cause: The Backup Agent RPC Server on the remote machine has a problem.

Solution: Restart the Backup Agent RPCserver on the remote machine. If it continues to fail consider rebooting the remote machine.

Hi
1-Apply the Exchange Brick Level cumulitive pacth

2-from Registry go to
"Hkey_local_machine\software\ComputerAssociates\ArcserveIT\agent\dbaexach2"
Under "dbaexach2" look for a "value entry" of "UseTCP" change it from 1 to 0.
Then stop/start backup RPC server service.

Hi, all,

Actually, I've already restarted the Backup Agent RPCserver, restarted the exchange server and applied the Q022840 patch.

And we're using eTrust on both backup and exchange server. Speshalyst, do you mean that I have to stop the AV services on both servers? I'm just afraid it'll be too dangerous to stop the anti-virus program.

Hi Tabo

I have experience the same problem,
These are common in cases where Innoculate/eTrust AV is running.

1- Update the eTrust drivers from the following page:

2- If the above doesn't make a difference,
Go into the Realtime Monitor options, selection tab.
Under regular files specify "all except the specified
exceptions", and go to edit list, and hit the add
button. A file extension with the description "No Extension" will be added. This will force InoculateIT/eTrust AV not to scan named pipes.
