Hey everyone,
well versed Nortel Tech here. just got a new Avaya IP Office 500 for my company as we now have a need for remote IP phone users. i had a couple of questions for you as tek-tips has never let me down before.

info on the system.
16 sets (15-5410 1-5420)
8 lines (all POTS trunks)
4 5610SW IP phones
IPO Embedded Voicemail

1. every phone should hear the 8 lines ring when there is an incoming call. Is this done with a hunt group? is there no way to just assigne 2 or three buttones to incoming calls?

2. all sets should pick up and dial 9 for an outside line. how does this work do i need to use ARS? Is there any way to create line pools so that 9 from one phone gets the first 4 lines and 9 from another set gets a different 4 lines?

3. Music on hold does not seem to like me. i have put a wav file in the manager directory and set the tftp server address and enabled MOH in system telephony music and tones. cant get anything other than those incesant beeps

4. I was hoping to have my cheesy MOH file uploaded to the system and have all customers hear that and then have our two way radio audio pumped into the external source. this way people can sit at there desks and dial some access code and listen to the two way radio but at the same time if they put a caller on hold they heare our propaganda .wav file

5. I enabled Voicemail and recorded a greeting on set 216 and it sounds VERY LOW even though i was speaking at a normal voice. i'm assuming there is some sort of handset adjustment.

Thanks again guys and girls in advance for the help.

And then there is the problem of remote access.......

We don't even try if they are on alog

Hey folks,

i did what jaime77 and amriddle said. i uploaded the file to the flash card via the embedded file utility below is what i see with the system monitor. it appears to copy the file but then still tries to tftp and deletes it. any additional thoughts on this one?

guess i pulled the trigger to fast on that last post. sorry

Try to rename the file to Test.wav and also in Tones and music in Manager to WAV:Test.wav, see if that helps.

I agree with IPGuru. Where we are located there are very few PRI instalations. The IPO works fine with analog lines almost all of are instalattions use analog and we have not seen any issues. As long as you explain how the IPO handles analog calls there is no issue. If they need CLID they will have to wait for the second ring to get it if they can't wait turn off the CLID. It is not that complicated.

I know it's not, that's not the issue we get, are you UK? If you are you have been extremely lucky not to encounter issues where no matter what you do/configure they persist.

TBH, the CLI issue is the way CLI works and is the same for most people. It isn't an issue as IPGuru says - you have a choice 1) either fast ringing and no CLI, or 2) a delay in ringing and CLI. It is easy to explain to the customer...

The issues I have are cleardown - not all BT lines behave the same. Likewise, all PBXs don't recognise a line is down (i.e. absence of loop current) and skip the line.

BRI gives you positive disconnect, DDI, outbound CLI, and auto recognition of failed lines...

much, much better

Take Care

I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.
