We are testing or DR recovery procedures and we are finding that the BPRECOVER process for image 1 is running about 512K per/second, this seems very slow, we are running on a IBM RS/6000 master server and have it isolated from our network and have a SAN attached library with LTO drives. The recovery does complete but take 6 hours.

Any thoughts?

How big is your current catalog? What type of tape drives, library, etc...

You might be running an old version of Atape driver for your drives as well.

Did you run topas or sar to see how the system is performing?

If you've tweaked parameters for performance in production try duplicating those settings on the test server. If you using the same server but different tape drives make sure the firmware and drivers are up to date on the different hardware.

Hi Comtec17,
The Catalog is around 10GB, The library we use in prod is an HP ESL9595 with LTO1 drives.

The test Library we are using is an HP MSL5030 with LTO1 drives.

Both are SAN based.

The diffirence in these devices would be firmware the MSL5030 is at lates patches, but in a DR I can't gurantee they would be the same either.

We did run topas and saw nothing, we did watch the library and it was definitly shoe shining?

The devices are configured on the server for variable length, I assume this is OK?

VSP should be turned off. If you use VSP, disabled it for the master server and try again.
