Hi guys I am new to this site/forum and I really hope someone can shed some light on this problem. I tried to install an external hard drive and Windows was able to recognize it properly but when it was supposed to start loading the drivers my PC suddenly rebooted and I received this error message.. 'Your system has recovered from a serious error' and the following are the results...

Error Signature

BCCode : 10000050 BCP1 : FFFFFFE8 BCP2: 00000001 BCP3: 80515FF4 BCP4: 00000000 OSVer: 5_1_2600 SP: 1_0 Product: 768_1

Error Report Contents

C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini112904-01.dmp
C:\DOCUME~11John\Local~1\Temp\WER2.tmp dir00\sysdata.xml

My system information is as follows...

Intel P4 1.6GHz
768Mb Ram
40Gb HD
80Gb HD
Windows XP Home Editon

Also,

I received an email from a friend a couple of days ago that caused my PC to suddenly reboot and give me the 'your system has recovered from a serious error message'. There was nothing wrong with the email because several other people that I work with received the same email with no problems. The email was of a little cartoon man shaking his butt and singing. (That is just way to lame to make up :)

As well,

Sometimes when I have folders from both hard drives open my PC will hang up, my task bar will momentarily disappear and then come back but any/all the folders that I had open will be closed. Any programs that I had running will still be running and will be showing in my taskbar.

I kind of gave you my error problems in reverse order. I first noticed the PC hang up with my hard drives then I got the email and finally tonight I tried to install the external hard drive.

Do you think that any/all these problems may be related? Please let me know what you think or let me know if you need any more information.

Thanks

Can't tell you what the specific problem is here, but I can tell you that if you can see animated graphics and hear singing when someone sends you an email, you are opening your computer up for all kinds of potential problems. Sounds like some crap that Incredimail would send out - very gimmicky and annoying, and it can cause lots of conflicts with other things in your computer.

Windows should be asking to send a problem report to MS. Let it do so. Sometimes it will follow up with an explanation of what the problem was.

Since it "seemed" to start (I say "seemed" because you never REALLY know) with the install of the second hard drive, I first would look at a power problem. You don't state the size of your power supply, should be at least 350w - preferably 400+. I'm concerned with that "C:\DOCUME~11John\Local~1\Temp\WER2.tmp dir00\sysdata.xml". Can you trace this down and find out what it is? It may help to run "Disk Cleanup".

The external drive may not be cooling well?
I didnt' see how the external drive is connected, but a bad connection could also be part of it?

Also, of course check viruses, spyware, etc.

Look for strange stuff in windoze startup (msconfig)
cheers
Jay
