both 7- and 10-digit local dialing 1

I was just wondering on a Meridian how it would be possible to provide both 7- and 10-digit local dialing. Would you have to program in every single NXX for 7-digit dialing and every single NPA/NXX for the 10-digit dialing? I'm trying to figure out if a Meridian can somehow figure out whether a user is trying to dial 7 or 10 digits where CallManager can't. Thanks!

I they are dialing out of the system, it shouldn't matter how many digits they need to dial. If you want the callers to not have to dial the area code for certain numbers then you would have to create a DMI table and associate that with the RLI entry for every number exchange in that area code.

For example, if your callers are dialing 713-555-5555 and you want to have the 713 inserted then you need to create a new DMI entry that inserts 713 and then create a new RLI entry for 555 to go across and associate the DMI entry when you program the RLI. You would then need to change the NPA/NXX for 555 to go out the new RLI you built.

In a system that has been accustomed to 7-digit dialing, you will see that all the local NXXs are programmed in, and identified to the system as NXXs. When you then overlay 10-digit dialing, normally all you need to do is add the local NPA (there may be a couple), specifying it as NPA, and give it the same RLI as the other local calls. You will see that your long distance NPAs are programmed in with a 1+NPA (ex: 1407 is long distance, 407 is local)

Just add the first three numbers in the 10 digit numbering plan and program it in LD 90 as an NPA without the 1. Works very well in Orlando FL which is all 10 digit dialing.
