I use Delphi 7 Professional on Windows XP Professional.

A few hours ago my PC locked up and I rebooted. Now each time I try to start D7 I get the following message
Borland license information was found, but it is not valid for Delphi.
You can not run Delphi without this information.

Click the 'Exit' button to exit Delphi.
'Exit' is the only button on the dialog and when this is clicked Delphi exits.

I uninstalled D7 and reinstalled it (twice). Each time I get the same message.

A google search brought up some hits but none has proved effective so far.

Has anyone come across this before and better still know how to fix the problem? Otherwise, it looks like I'm going to have to re-install Windows. [sad]

Hi Andrew,

Not sure if this will help, but I had a similar problem when my PC didn't shut down properly about 18 months ago.

However, my home PC had a copy of the software running ok. I found there are three files ([tt]BORLAND.LIC, REGISTRY.DAT and REGISTRY.SLM[/tt]) in [tt]C:\Documents and Settings\Dad\.borland[/tt] (Dad is my user name at home [wink]).

I copied at least the [tt]BORLAND.LIC[/tt] over to the user profile in my work machine and it all came back (been a while, and I can't recall the details). The DAT file is text, and the other two are encoded. You could try something similar if you have a backup or an alternative machine, starting with the BORLAND.LIC file and work back.

Hope that helps.

Cheers,
Chris [pc2]

Thanks Chris.

I couldn't find BORLAND.LIC anywhere but I managed to get Delphi going again by copying over the two REGISTRY files from my laptop.

A star for significantly reducing my blood pressure.
