Hello,

I have a COMPAQ PROLIANT DL380 with 2 processors:
x86 Family 6 Model 8 Stepping 6 GenuineIntel 797 MHz
x86 Family 6 Model 8 Stepping 3 GenuineIntel 797 MHz
Which works fine with NT 4.
But now I have updated the motherboard firmware, and I am installing Windows 2000 Server on it and when it boots I have the following message:

BOOT STRAP PROCESSOR IS NOT LOWEST STEPPING
RECOMMEND YOU SWAP PROCESSORS

And Windows 2000 only works on a single processor...

Someone knows how I can fix that?

Thank you

David

The Boot Strap processor must be the one with the lowest stepping value.

Exchange the processors so that the one with Stepping 3 is in Slot 1. Also upgrade to the latest BIOS.

If you upgrade the latest bios the server will sit at an F1 prompt unless the processor with the highest STEP value is in the primary Slot position.

We have recently upgraded a number of server bios, Management agents and MS SP3 and this has resolved the problem in each case.
