Upon booting up of my E3500 I have noticed a messages saying that the temperature control feature has been disabled. It seems to appear before run control 1 so I am not sure where to look to enable the temperature control feature. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

temperature control feature is at boot prom level, (OpenBoot 3.x), in boot prom (OBP):
enable-environmental-monitor
usage: enable-environmental-monitor ( -- )
Purpose: To start monitoring power supply status, board temperatures and board hot plug while the screen displays the ok prompt, this is enabled by default.
Messages Indicating Environmental Conditions

PROM NOTICE: Overtemp detected on board <n.
PROM NOTICE: System has cooled down.
PROM WARNING: Board <n is too hot.
PROM NOTICE: Insufficient power detected.
PROM NOTICE: Power supply restored.
PROM NOTICE: Board insert detected.
PROM NOTICE: Reset Initiated...

Hope this helps,

Carlos Almeida,

I looked up the overtemperature safeguard in the docs.sun.com web page which informed me is called COS (cpu overtemperature safeguard). It turns out that you are right. Unfortunately for me we don't have a firmware revision that is new enough to support COS so I am stuck either updating the firmware or dealing with it. It will be a management call but now I have the information to present it. Thanks Carlos.
