I have a Sun UltraSparc 60 with Solaris 8, when the machine boot up it hang at setting default interface for multicast.

do you run NIS or NIS+ ?
or even mount filesystems from another computer (/var/mail for example)

It does run NIS and mount filesystem form another computer

boot the computer into single user mode and see if you can ping the network, or telnet into another machine.

it sounds like there is a problem with your network, either your dhcp server is down, or your network connection isn't working properly.

if you log in in single user mode and type:
hostname

what does it tell you?

Jon

Hostname resolve no problem and able to ping other machine

what do you have inside the /etc/vfstab ...
concentrate on the lines with <machinename>:<device> in them.

can you ping the machine name?
is the device on that machine shared?
does the line have any options like 'rw,hard,actimeo=0' ?

what does it say just before it hangs?

Jon
