I have a weird problem that I have never encountered anywhere before. i boot up my P.C. it recognizes the graphics card then the first screen comes up in about 3 secs. Says:

AMD athlon(tm) 1050MHz Processor
memory test : 393216k OK

Award Plug and Play BIOS Extension v1.0A

Then at the bottom press DEL to enter setup like normal and that's it. It stops there delete won't enter setup it dosn't get far enough to boot any disks, nothing seems to work it just won't continue to boot up.Can anyone tell me what this could be or how to solve it.Any help would be gratefully accepted. Thanks in advance.

I encounter this problem with improperly jumpered hard drives. The computer will freeze at exactly the same point every time. Check your hard drive jumpers. This could be an intermittent problem sometimes. Is this a new machine with some type of hardware addition or a new problem on an old machine? HAve you added any hardware?

Cheers for the help so far. It's a new prob on an old machine and it happens every single time. Don't know how it happened could the jumpers have loosened themselves with movement of the P.C. or something like that?

Unlikely to be jumpers as you have not changed anything, however it would be worth a look just in case something has come loose. It definitely would seem to be hardware, try unplugging or removing items in turn such as drives and expansion cards, you will probably find one of them is faulty or badly seated or connected. You could also try reseating your RAM but I doubt that is the problem All things are possible except skiing through a revolving door.

I've come across this before - two things worth looking at here...

1. Could be a partially duff piece of memory. Try substituting for known good strip of RAM.

2. CMOS settings corrupted. Locate the Clear CMOS jumper, or remove the battery. (N.B. sometimes battery removal does not negate settings immediately).
