I have 520 that during boot up shows boot up procedure on console monitor and LCD changing numbers. Will get to 0c33 on LCD and hang at that point. Can any one tell me how to get the CPU to finish the boot up process or what is causing the lock up at that point. I can ping the CPU but can't get in.

c33 - A tty terminal attached to serial ports S1 or S2 was selected.

I presume no HMC.

When you say "console monitor", what sort of console is it?, dumb terminal or LFT?

Does it respond to a telnet connection?

Have you looked in the ASMI settings (service processor menus) to check the console speed etc.? - 19,200, 8, n, 1, I believe on p5 machines.

As far as I know the serial ports on p5xx machines are configured from ASMI, there are no tty devices so smit config is not possible, so if a dumb terminal works during the boot process it should also work once AIX is up and running, as long as you have a suitable cable...

Yes it is a wyse dumb teminal, configured as such 19200, etc. I can ping the server but getting in is not an option. It looks to be hung at c33 and want continue the boot process.Have tried several thing but always stops at c33 and want continue.

how did it get in this state? what changed? if IP is configured (must be if you can ping it) you nust have been able to get in at some point in the past.
try a service mode boot and check the console settings.

c33 is waiting for console.

Try booting in maintenance mode and see if you can get in.

What happens if you boot it with the console disconnected? (Cable disconnected from serial port connecter on the p5-520)
