Boot problem xfx 7900gs

Hi all!
I`ve tried to install Windows Vista Ultimate but just before the installation completes ,my monitor goes to standby. I`ve tried to boot Knoppix 5.1.1 LiveDVD but the same thing happens(when the X server is starting the monitor goes stand by,and when i press CTRL+ALT+F1 i get to console and i enter startx,after that i get an error message <The X is running on display 0> .I`ve tried to change the DVI ports on my grapics card,disabled the integrated grapics card but nothing helps. With Win XP Pro x86 and x64 i`ve no problems . My PC cfg is: C2D 6300, ASUS P5N-E SLI, 2 x 1GB kingston DDR II RAM, 160GB WD SATA II HD, CoolerMaster eXtrem Power 430W PSU, XFX 7900GS 256MB DDR III 450M .
Please help me!

As you have an internal Graphics chip, I would re-enable it & remove the graphics card from the slot. Then boot up with the knoppix live DVD or even another Linux Distro (Ubuntu?) & if this works okay I would suspect the graphics card has a problem. If it still doesn't work it could be your monitor that is failing.

I`ve tried 3 monitors and the same thing happens. In BIOS i can choose PCI or PCI-E as the primary boot device. And i was wrong , i haven`t got integrated grapics. But how can it work with Xp and can`t with linux distro?

Are you able to get hold of another graphics card? Even an old PCI card would do.

Have you still got XP on the machine? (I mean, does it definitely still work with XP - may be graphics card has just developed fault). As Kestrel says, swapping graphics card is obvious next step. If no good, points to other hardware issue (though using a different type of graphics card would cloud the issue, if the problem is with the motherboard. It mioght work, but current slot may not).

Everything worx perfect with XP,i play next-gen games with almost maximum details,so the grapics card is only failing @ the boot of other OS than XP.My varranty is still valid for the grapics card,so i`ll bring it to the shop where i bought it.But first i need to be sure that the grapics card is failing,so i`ll try to borrow a grapics card from my friend.
Than you all for youre replies and oppinions.
