My wife's CMOS battery died (she runs WIN XP SP3). I replaced it & since then, it won't boot. When I turn on the PC, I get a black screen with the following message: 'Turn off computer and re-install jumper to normal mode' I've already moved the jumper from the default position to the 2nd and 3rd pins & back to 1st & 2nd pins. Still get the same message. Unplugged the PC & removed the CMOS battery for about 1 hour. Re-installed the battery powered up the PC which brought up setup, entered the correct time & day, saved changes and rebooted. Got the same black screen with the same message. Can anybody help me resolve this issue?

Thanks for any ideas, Bob

Brand and model of computer please. Normally, you put the new battery in. Wait a minute. Move the jumpers from being on pins 1 & 2 to being on 2 & 3 for a minute. Then place it back onto its normal position, pin 1&2. Power off, restart and then go into BIOS and choose "Load Defaults" and see if that works. You may have check other settings (CPU, RAM) and SAVE/EXIT/RESTART if it's not happy.

Also read this first:

The above should NOT have implied that you move the jumpers with the computer on, therefore:
"Normally, with power off, you put the new battery in. Wait a minute. Move the jumpers from being on pins 1 & 2 to being on 2 & 3 for a minute. Then place it back onto its normal position, pin 1&2. Power off, start computer and then go into BIOS and choose "Load Defaults" and see if that works."

It's a Gateway model ATXSTF MNT Performance 1500XL with MOBO 4000656. I already read that post. I followed the directions you & the post gave me once more. Still gives me the same message at boot. Hopefully this new data I've given you will help in finding a solution for this issue.

Thanks again, Bob

If you checked that the new battery is actually producing 3 volts AND you put the battery in the correct way AND you've read that post and followed directions, I'm confused as to why it's not working.

In the back of my mind, I'm thinking "corrupted BIOS" if you did everything properly.
