I have a PC with windows 2000 professional on it.
On a second partition I attempted to load windows 2000 server last night.

The installation failed and now I have a boot.ini style menu that starts when I boot up. The options are 'Windows 2000 Professional' and 'Windows 2000 Server'. 'Windows 2000 Server' is the default but because the install failed, the machine will jam up if I don't change the selection to 'Windows 2000 Professional'.

I want to remove the 'Windows 2000 Server' option from the boot up process but I can't find boot.ini on my machine.
I've searched the whole machine ( including hidden files )
but can't find it. The options seem to be set somewhere
else. Anybody know where and how I can remove them?

You will find the file you require “boot.ini is in the root directory I assume C:/
Go to the root directory using explore go to “Tools” choose “View”
Make sure you have display contents of system folders ticked
Make sure you have “show hidden files and folders” enabled
Make sure you have “Hide extensions for known file types” unenabled
Make sure you have “Hide protected operating system files” unenabled.

You may also find another copy of boot.ini in \documents and setting\your user name\recent

I hope this helps...

I have no idea hat you need to change in this file or what effects it may have but that’s where it is.
