Ok . i have 2 harddrive one as slave and one as master.
when i boot up the computer i get a Boot Disk Failure, Insert System Disk and Press Enter". The bios recognizes the disks but fdisk doesn't.

They are 2 gb fujitsu drives running on a pentium 133 system

Hi,

I got a bootdisk failure before...try plugging in all the cables in the motherboard...and make sure everything is secured...also make sure your motherboard bios is autodetecting the hdd....i mean if you run fdisk again....and check if you can see the hdd again...what a boot drive failure means that the hdd have no OS...or they are not set as Active Partition...if the fdisk doesn't recognize the drive...that could also means your hdd died..

hope that helps.

Any advice I give is my best judgement based on my interpretation of the facts you supply.

Help increase my knowledge by providing some feedback, good or bad, on any advice I have given.

TRy making your slave your master then fdisk your slave as your master back up all your data so you can put it back on the proper drives.

its the weirdest thing. computer came in not booting up what so ever. just a black screen. through the process of elimination i was required to change the motherboard. so now it boots fine. but the master drive does not register. when i go into fdisk (with both master and slave connected) and display partition information it does recognize both drives. but when i connect the master alone fdisk does not see any drive. maybe a third party peice of software is required like partition magic 6. the slave drive is recognized by fdisk and dos...so thats ok. So ive pretty much determined the master drive committed suicide.

Have you checked the BIOS settings to verify that the IDE ports are all enabled? Also, are you sure the jumper settings are right? I have had a situation with Fujitsu that the label on the drive itself was incorrect and I had to consult their website to get the right configuration. Is there an IDE CD on the machine? If so, try connecting the slave drive behind the CD and see if it shows up.

Good luck!
