Is there a way to set the report viewer for everyone to use in Business Objects Enterprise XI R2. I have been searching through the Admin guides and can't seem to find anything. The default viewer change in the Central Managment Console only changes the default for viewing within the CMC it seems. We are trying to get away from using the ActiveX controls due to the maintenance involved in updating local machines.

THANKS!!

Hi,
If using InfoView to run the reports, it can be set there..
Otherwise the viewer is determined by the calling code used - How are the reports being called?

Infoview is how we are running the reports. However, I can't seem to find where an Administrator can set the default viewer globally for all users. I contacted Business Objects and they gave me the following solution which sounds rather complex for something this simple.

As per the case description we observe that, you would like to have DHTML viewer as the default viewer for all the users.

Could you please follow the below steps and test for the issue.

Attached is a script to change user preferences globally:

• Please backup the CMS Data Base first.
• Open the attached file on the server.
• Change the name of the CMS server, XI Administrator user and password.
• Save the file with the extension .wsf on the server desktop.
• Next, set the Administrator accounts preferences as you want all other users to be.
• Once that is done, save the file on the XI server's desktop. Double click on it.
• The Administrator account preferences will be applied to all the Infoview users globally.

Note: Please backup the CMS Data Base first before performing the workaround.

Hope the information helps you.

We shall await your feedback and proceed accordingly.

Please feel free to get back to us for any further queries.

We use Crystal Reports Server XI, but the setting should be the same for BO XI R2.

From the home page in the Central Management Console, select "BusinessObjects Enterprise Applications".

You should then see a list of applications - click on "InfoView". Scroll to the bottom and you will see the "Viewers" section where there is a drop-down box to select the default viewer.

I hope this helps!

I did try this, but it does not appear to work. I tried to switch to the DHTML viewer, but the user's default seems to be stuck on ActiveX. I had her clear her cookies, but this doesn't seem to change anything either.

Thanks for the help all.

The only other thing I can think of is that this user has her InfoView viewer preferences set to use ActiveX and is overriding the defaults.

You can adjust the viewer in her InfoView by clicking the preferences icon and then selecting the "Crystal Report Preferences" tab.

As you have already discovered, the user settings are stored in the BO database and not in cookies. You should be able to confirm what viewer any user has with a query - I believe the viewer is indicated by a number in the "desktopsettings" string (vwr=6 for Advanced DHTML, vwr=4 for Java, vwr=1 for DHTML and vwr=0 for ActiveX).

See the following article regarding querying the InfoView settings:
Good luck!
