I woke up and found out that a system running windows xp professional had blue screen of death and the culprit atapi.sys
Though I restarted and it worked but wants to find out if there is a way to repair that driver so that the issue does not come back again.

If it's an isolated incident it's probably not worth worrying about. If atapi.sys were corrupt it would happen every time. The fact it happened when idle suggests something environmental - electrical or temperature - or maybe a memory problem.

If the machine wasn't in use it would not likely be accessing the CD/DVD drive(s).

You could boot up using a boot disk and copy a free copy of atapi.sys to the hard drive in question. Malware sometimes will infect atapi.sys, but I would expect this to cause problems virtually every time the computer starts.

You might do a memory test and a hard drive test to see that your hardware is kosher. Don't assume it's software until hardware is proven innocent.

Both are available on the Ultimate Boot CD for windows.
