board FW updates with CM upgrades

I am slowly getting educated on the CM product line and would like to find out the real world best practice for board FW updates when upgrading CM. I have the latest CM_SW_FW_Compatibility_Matrix document and it shows that when I upgrade to CM6 all of my circuit packs will need to be fw updated.....Is the best practice to fw update all of the circuit packs prior to upgrading CM, after upgrading CM, or will it occur automatically once CM is upgraded? I have a feeling there isn't a one-size fits all answer, but I thought I would throw it out there.

Any thoughts would be appreciated

Prior to a point... then sometimes it's required after the upgrade.

It does not happen automatically... BTW - it can be a lengthy painful process depending on how big your PBX is and how well you are versed on performing the updates.

My stance in the real world... if it isn't broken and it's working as it should - why fix it? Especially with Avaya….
