Hello,

Does anyone know what I need in order to fix the problem with blurred video, after burning to DVD.

I find that after completing projects and playing back the final product, my scenes are not clear and often there are streaks or blurs especially with camera movement.

my specs:
Computer: 21SG5
Shuttle XPC
Latest Chipset and audio drivers
Onboard Video (no video card)
2GB RAM
Athlon 64-3200
11GB free (2Ghz (CPU)
70 GB FREE (Scratch disks)

The important parameters are those you used to transcode the footage before burning to DVD. Quality is unlikely to be affected by your computer specification - only the time to transcode.

Too low a data rate or poor conversion give the effect you describe.

Too high a data rate gives skips and dropouts on replay.

A middle road is the way to go.

What settings are you using and how long ia your programme?

Hello Akribie,

I was using the following:

NTSC Progressive High Quality 7Mb CBR 1 Pass

What settings should I use?

You could try VBR.

The maximum total data rate wants to be under 9mb/s.
Subtract your audio data rate from 9 and use no more than that.

Very rapid camera movement is always likely to give problems when encoded to MPEG for DVD. I use ProCoder to improve on Premiere's quality, but I'm told that later Premiere Pros are better than my 1.5.

Hi and thanks again for your help.

I'm running into another problem now.

When I burn to DVD at NTSC Progressive High Quality 7Mb CBR 1 Pass, although the DVD is blurred in areas, the video is complete despite the fact that some of the pictures are black near the end (I followed your advice on the other thread I started and turned off the Optimize Stills function).

However, when I burn a DVD using a lower setting like NTSC Progressive High Quality 4mb or 2mb, the program stalls and never finishes transcoding/burning the DVD. I tried to burn a DVD by leaving the program on all night after I went to bed and in the morning, it didn't progress beyond the middle of transcoding. It gets stuck.

Any ideas?

Make sure your version of PPro is fully updated. You don't say which you have, but if 1.5, then get the 1.51 update from Adobe downloads.

I don't use Premiere to transcode, so can't really help on this. But yours is not the first such problem I've read about, so you might want to search the Adobe forums for clues.

Hi Akribie, I have Adobe Premier Pro version 7. I think that's 1.x?

I'll check up the downloads.

Thanks

Would you by any chance have a link for the page where I can get updates?

The link is but there are no updates for your version, so this is not relevant in your case.

You may get some ideas from a browse of the Premiere Pro WiKi at
You may get other ideas from the Adobe Premiere Pro 1.x forum at
If you have tried VBR with a maximum data rate that keeps video + audio below 9, and with a minimum that isn't too low (say 2 less than max), then possibly your footage is not suitable for the type of compression used by PPro 1.x when making MPEG2 for DVDs. As I said earlier, I use Canopus Pro Coder, and one reason is that is gives very much cleaner results of fast-moving material.
