I get a bluescreen like this very common when im running games:
----------------------------------------------------------
Its discovered a problem on the computer. Windows will be shut down to prevent damage.
Check that all new hardware or programvare is correctly installed.
If the problem continues, deactivate or remove recently installed components.
Techincal information:

My computer specs:
Amd Athlon XP2400 @ 2600
Asus a7n8x
512 DDR
ATI Radeon 9700
Windows XP Professional
Western Digital 80GB
30GB HDD.

I got 2 HDDs. The one on 30GB is the primary drive and it got C: the WD 80GB is secondary drive and this is where I have Windows installed. Is there any chance that having The Operating System on a secondary drive can make it unstable?

First thing I would say is stop overclocking the CPU, 2400+ is plenty for any game I've ever seen.

See if the problem goes away and maybe you'll have your answer!

Good luck!

DO you have service pack 1 installed? Latest drivers for your Radeon card? That would be the first thing I would check. If that is not the problem what kind of sound card do you have and what game or games is it crashing on. Also was there a Nvidia card installed on your system before the Radeon?

This system is totally fresh. I formatted both drives before I installed it, and I have the newest drivers for my Radeon card. I dont have SP1 though, I cant update.

I have used overclocked to 2600 long time now, but lately I have been getting the problem very often. It happens most in Heroes of Might and Magic 3 and 4.

There have never been a Nvidia card on.

Sound card is integrated on asus a7n8x MB

Install service pack 1 it solves a lot of compatibility issues. I bet it has to do with your built in sound card though. Games require a lot of resources from the sound and graphics and when your sound is working off of the same thing as your processor and everything else it tends to lag out. And therefore you get a blue screen. I would first try updating your sound card drivers and your motherboard drivers. Flash your bios. Make sure you hae the latest Directx 9 drivers to run along side that radeon. And if all of that does not work (which it should) then buy a cheapy sound card to see if that fixes it.

Howdy:

Just wondering why you can't update to SP1?? The only reason I can see for not being able to is that you arte running a pirated version of XP Pro and Microsoft Update itself won't allow it.

If that is, in fact, the case, then you are on your own as no one here will knowing help someone running pirated software..
