Hello

Hoping if anybody cud give me pointers-

The issue:

My (HP Pavillion dv1000) laptop would POST properly, load the entire desktop (with all shortcuts) but would cut back and show me the Blue Screen of Death immidiately after loading the desktop!

Things I tried:

1. Logged into Safe mode and tried loading "Last good config known" - Did not help

2. Ran the sfc /scannow command to check if all the system files were ok....Did not show any corrupted sys files.

3. Defraged hard drive in Safe mode- did not help.

I've got important stuff that i dont want to lose on my hard drive.

Could any one suggest how i can get rid of the blue screen and get back working. Thanks a lot.

Control Panel -> System (Properties) -> Advanced Tab -> Startup and Recovery Settings -> Untick "Automatically Restart".

Now you should be able to read the BSOD message and see what file or device is causing the problem.

Ok. The "Automatically Restart" was already unchecked! Where can I read the BSOD msg?

!!!Please Ignore my last post!!!

The BSOD msg is:

PFN_LIST_CORRUPT

Error Code: x0000008E (xC0000005, x805446F3, xAA15F154, x00000000)

Beginning Dump of Physical Memory.

On another reboot Im getting a different BSOD msg

BAD_POOL_HEADER with a different set of Stop code.

Nope! Only that I rebooted and logged in as Admin instead of the user's windows id.

And neither did I add or remove any hardware.

Doing a google search, your error generally indicates that system memory may have gone bad. That might be the first place to look.

The BAD_POOL_HEADER may be the result of your first error. Do a search on MS site for BAD_POOL_HEADER. Even MS says there are a large number of reasons for the BAD_POOL_HEADER error.

How do i go about checking system mem (I'm assuming yr refering to RAM)?

can try memtest. It's free. Do a google search for it. Download, install it and let it run for a while (preferably overnight would probably be good).

Haven't yet done a test on the system memory(RAM). However I did a chkdsk /P and this is the result:

"Found one or more errors on volume."

what does this imply? Does this mean that my hard drive is bad?

And then when I do a chkdsk /R it does not go any further after 50%!

KornFuse,
What do you mean, chkdsk doesn't get beyond 50%????? Does it simply quit? Do you get an error???? You may think it doesn't go any further, but it may still be working. Give it more time.
