When installing Windows XP I get a blue screen right at the end of the installation, when it says saving settings.

The stop error\blue screen says something like Windows is halting the installation to avoid damaging the hardware, the problem it says is Memory_Management, it tells me to check the BIOS to ensure Memory caching is disabled.

Well Memory Caching is disabled, but it still each time gets to the same point and blue screens....aaarrgghhhh...

Does anyone have any ideas on this?. I have listed my Hardware for you.

Asus A7N8X Deluxe mobo
550w PSU
AMD Athlon XP 2400+
512MB 2100 DDR Ram Branded - being detected correctly in the BIOS.
120GB 7200rpm HDD
CD-RW Phillips
Sony DVD-Rom
Asus MultiCard Reader
Floppy Drive

I'm not the most experienced with XP, only just started working for a company that delopy XP and never come across this before?.

If you can download this Ram checking diagnostic you can run it on your machine (even if no operating system is installed.

This MSKB article will give you an idea of what things to check for before installing XP (Upgrade or clean install).

HOW TO: Prepare to Upgrade Windows 98 or Windows Millennium Edition to Windows XP(Q316639)

See if any of these help you.

Run the Windows XP Upgrade Advisor.
You can use the Microsoft Windows XP Upgrade Advisor tool to audit the current status of your computer and get a report of known hardware and software compatibility issues (based on Microsoft testing before release). If you are concerned about the results of the report, do not upgrade until these issues are corrected. Contact your hardware or software manufacturer for updates that make the products run properly on Windows XP.

Upgrade the Computer BIOS.
Before you start the upgrade process, obtain and install the latest basic input output system (BIOS) upgrade for your computer from the computer manufacturer. If you update the BIOS after you upgrade the computer, you may have to reinstall Windows XP to take advantage of features such as Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) support in the BIOS. If possible, update the firmware in all devices before you start the upgrade.

310064 - HOW TO: Troubleshoot Windows XP Problems During Installation When You Upgrade

I get this same message when trying to install Service Pack 1 on my existing XP installation.

I finally gave up and left it as it is. I have also had it happen when installing the automatic updates.

I have quite installing those as well.

I did a complete reinstallation of XP and then tried to run the update, still the same thing (this is from the factory CD) so I just decided to live with it.

If anyone knows how I can track down the problem I would love to hear it.

Well Windows XP did finally load, with persiverance and time. Was running fine until we installed a simple mouse driver, now it won't boot. If I try and get to the boot menu by pressing F8 it just reboots itself. Other than that I just get a corrupted file message and that's it, no boot.

No, I shall do that and try and repair the installation or re-install.

Upgraded BIOS and re-installed XP, hung twice during installation, but 3rd time got a blue screen STOP 0x0000008e, which when I look up on technet says either faulty RAM or RAM config not support by XP. Arrggghh - it's just 512MB of DDR 2100 RAM, how can that not be supported, I shall however use another RAM DIMM I have got, but it's unbranded and I didn't really want to use it. But i'll give it a go tonight.

I'll let you know how it goes....

I posted some suggestions in your other thread. Cheers,
Jim

I FIXED IT! the problem for me was i was using 2700 ram when my mobo could only handle 2100 and 1600, also i downgraded from 512 to 256, now one of two things, eaither this mofo is screwed with ram issues or the 512 ram i orginally had was bad to begin with. I would try downgrading ram, or at least switching ram up.
it worked for me

Well I know the RAM is OK for the board, my board supports 266-333, obviously all the dimms need to be the same speed, but I only have one. I have downloaded Doc Memory and will test my RAM maybe you could try the same Exorcist526 get it from

Sorted it was faulty RAM, tried different RAM DIMM same spec and XP installed first time.

Thanks for you help guys...
